In 2013, I was given the opportunity to fly to Haiti with Chances 4 Children to photograph and video these beautiful kids for C4C’s Night of Hope. Chances for Children works to bring aid to orphaned children in Haiti, as well as work with the local communities in regards to food, water sanitation, and providing jobs to women. The goal of the project was to capture both the children for potential adoptive parents, and video various aspects of the program in Haiti for donors in the United States.
Haiti, a tiny country splitting an island the with the Dominican Republic, was rocked by an earthquake in 2010, which killed thousands of people and wrecked the infrastructure of the country. While Haiti already had huge orphan issue, the earthquake caused a skyrocketing of parentless children. Much of the aid that was sent from the generosity of Americans and other countries was redirected or taken through corruption through various groups. Yet there were some groups who persisted through government corruption and frustrating international bureaucracy.
